Italian red Pezzata beef

Friuli-Venezia Giulia Local product
Description

Before 1985 it was called "Pezzata rossa friulana". Breed of mestizo origin from a substitution crossing occurred in 1870 between an old local breed of "fromentino" mantle, called friulana, used more for work than for the production of milk and meat, and the Simmental red spotted breed of Swiss origin. Subsequently it was improved for the milk using French bulls of Montbeliarde breed and for the meat through crossings with bulls of Bavarian and Austrian breed. The breed "Italian red Pezzata" is excellent for the production of milk used for the packaging of dairy products, such as Montasio D.O.P.
In recent years also appreciated for its meat.
