Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III - Farra d'Isonzo The name Farra is of Lombard origin, in fact it derives from Fara, which in the Lombard language indicates a fortress granted to individual families with their descendants.  Due to its geographical position, it was at the centre of historical events from the Middle Ages onwards, enduring Hungarian and Turkish invasions, until the First World War, which reduced the town to an artillery emplacement.  Situated on mainly flat land, although it includes the last foothills of the Collio, the area is rich in vineyards and today is known mainly for the production of fine wines.
